Reading: "God Has a Dream: A Vision of Hope for Our Time”, by Desmond Tutu
Taking liberties with the song,” All God’s Children”, “Martin Luther King had a dream. I have a dream. You have a dream. All God’s children have a dream. God has a dream!” What is God’s dream? How might it fit with mine? This is what I wondered as I started to read Tutu’s book. Coaching includes assessment of and changes in attitude and behavior. In this book’s application, we consider our own dreams, attitude and behavior, and note any changes we want to make, for our own and the greater good. God’s dream, as Tutu describes it, “It is a dream of a world whose ugliness and squalor and poverty, its war and hostility, its greed and harsh competitiveness, its alienation and disharmony are changed into their glorious counterparts, when there will be more laughter, joy, and peace, where there will be justice and goodness and compassion and love and caring and sharing. I have a dream that swords will be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks, that My children will know that they are members of one family, the human family, God’s family, My family. Please help me to realize it.” (p. 19-20) My most recent passion in my dream is living from a place of shared Power and Peace. In the center of my vision board are three interlocking circles with PEP in each: Performance Effectiveness Profitability, Peace Energy Prosperity and Peace Education and Power, which is how I am striving to live my life. I continue to seek the answer to (as do my clients and retreat participants): what is the best use of my resources (time, money, energy, gifts, experience, education) for the greater good?
Participant
quote: "Wow,
Marilyn, WOW!! Since
attending your retreat last
Friday, and having your pre-retreat
coaching session, I am so excited about life, more so than I have felt in
years!! I have felt
discouraged, worthless, and "lost" for some time; accomplishing
little each day, other than spinning my wheels as I have searched for new
meaning and direction. Since
attending your retreat last
Friday, however, I am feeling and living like a new woman! I have woken up
each day with energy, joy and thrill, looking forward to my day! I am
organized, productive, and moving ahead on goals set during the coaching
session. Most of all, I feel happy, fulfilled, and motivated! I
am so grateful for your work--this was life-changing for me! If I could
sum it all up, I would say that your work catapulted me back into an
energetic, exciting, and rewarding direction, and all in good balance! I
have a smile on my face and heart, I feel ten years younger, I am excited
about life, and I am moving forward on rewarding and meaningful goals. Thank
you for your wonderful work--what a difference it has made for me! Sincerely,
Linda Dickens" One
of the opportunities available during the retreat is the creating of a
vision collage. Mine includes
words and images such as the Picasso peace dove, “You can be the
difference”, “Be the change you wish to see in the world” (Gandhi),
“Share /Serve/ Make a Difference”, “Re-energize” and the Helen
Keller quote, with a picture of hands holding a candle, “I am only one,
but still I am one. I cannot
do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do
everything, I will not refuse to
do the something that I can do.” Come
and explore with me your own vision.
